Today I’m going to share a tool so simple that anyone can do, that will help you manage stress in your daily life. This method is call “mindful alarm”. These alarms will trigger you to take deep breath and cultivates mindfulness in your busy day. It goes like this.

  1. Set alarms on your desktop or your phone 4-6 times a day

  2. Know that you’ll stop everything you do and take ten deep breath when the alarm goes off.

By doing so, I have found that.

  • I am reminded to take deep breath and be aware of my senses, my breath, and the fact that I am here, now.

  • 10 deep breaths are the space between thoughts. It give me mental breaks. I find that my focus and creativity improve after such simple 2 minutes break.
  • I am training my brain to STOP. By using alarm to trigger me every 2-3 hours. Even now, without the alarms, I will have a thought that says “Have you taken 10 deep breaths yet” Let’s do it. It’s a great tool to step back and be aware in the midst of a work day.
  • Deep breathing elevates your state, oxygenate your blood, your posture improves, it has positive effect on both your mental and physical state.

Brandon Burchard does a similar thing on his phone and he calls it a “Trigger”. I call it the “Reminder” or a snap back to reality. It bring you back to the base line reality that you are a human being, breathing, beating his heart, playing this role of in this society.

A great reminder of the underlying truth that we are a living being, and we should be grateful for the ability to acknowledge and be that.

So Breath. And know that you are okay.
